sadness in solitude

What could be more difficult
than to wait for something so unsure
and that you only have the slightest hope to cling onto it
yet you cling so hard,
so hard that you feel your grip tightens
as you wish that maybe, somehow
that hope will no longer keep you waiting.

What could be more difficult
Than thinking if the waiting will last for a lifetime
And that while you wait
You shed tears you never wanted to
And still manage to smile
Thinking that maybe, somehow
Someone will wipe away those tears from your eyes.

What could be more difficult
Than getting weary of waiting
And still longing more and more
That the unsure will make itself known
To the reality we live on
Yet while the clock ticks by
You just wait all by yourself
Holding on to faith that maybe, somehow
you’ll never feel alone again.

What else could be more difficult than love?
The answer is,
Being alone.
